I have been employed by Oostingh Staalbouw B.V., a steel construction manufacturer. This company operates on the Dutch market as well as the international market. The company is part of an fiscal construction that involves two other companies. One being Metaalbescherming Katwijk, a company that preserves steel constructions with paint coatings and one being a parent company. I hold the position of Assistent Controller and I report to the Financial Director.

The accounting software that is used is Exact Globe. I supervise the general ledgers content on being correct in and the other two colleagues that introduce the accounts payables and receivables and bank statements. I also supervise the intercompany accounts, the VAT declarations to the Dutch IRS, the information to the Dutch census office, fixed assets and depreciation on these, and the preparation of the year-end-file for the external accountants.

In addition to this I occasionally make some manual payments and I control the petty-cash. The accounts payable are generally paid through the accounting system that exports them to a file which in turn is send to the bank by means of online banking.

Periodically (every four weeks) I report to the Financial Director. The management reports are drawn up in an Excel spreadsheet, and I am pretty good with spreadsheets; even if I say so myself!

The Assistent Controller is assisted by a payroll administrator and two assistants that process creditors, debtors and bank statements on a daily basis.
